Conatus Privacy Policy
Last updated: 3 November 2026
Conatus is a private daily log. It has no account, no server, and no analytics.
What Conatus collects
Nothing. There is no backend to send anything to. Your entries leave the device only when you send them: a backup or text export you share or save, or the optional AI summary, when you add your own key and tap to send (see below).
Everything you enter (daily scores, mood, signals, notes, practices, week notes, settings) is stored on your device, inside the app's own storage. The developer cannot see it. Unless you export it or send it to an AI with your own key, neither can anyone else.
Analytics, ads, tracking
There are none. No SDKs for advertising or analytics are included, no identifiers are collected, and nothing about your use of the app is transmitted anywhere, apart from the AI requests you choose to send (see below). Conatus does not track you across apps or websites.
The optional AI summary
Conatus can generate a written summary of a week or a month. This feature is off unless you turn it on, and turning it on means pasting in your own Anthropic or OpenAI API key.
Before the first send to a provider, the app shows what will be sent and to whom, and sends nothing until you agree. It asks again for a different provider, and again after you remove the key.
When you tap to generate a summary or ask the Mirror a question, and only then:
- Your record for the period you asked about is sent from your device straight to whichever provider your key belongs to, using your key. It contains each day's date and status (Scored, Rest or No scores), your scores, mood, signals, day notes and week notes, thoughts for later and how often you kept them in that period, your practice names and how often you checked them, and, for a question, the question you asked.
- The app may first ask the same provider, with your key, which models it currently offers, so it can pick the newest model of the class you chose. That request carries none of your entries. Tapping Check now in Settings sends the same request.
- Nothing passes through any server belonging to the developer, because there isn't one.
- Both providers receive the request under their terms for API customers, which protect it at least as well as this policy does. Anthropic's commercial terms say it may not train models on what you send through the API, and OpenAI does not train its models on API data unless you opt in. Their privacy policies: Anthropic's privacy policy, OpenAI's privacy policy.
- Week and month summaries are stored on your device. An answer to a question is stored only if you tap Keep this answer; a kept answer, and one you paste back from another AI app, stays on your device and in your backups, and is never sent with a later question.
- Withdrawing consent: remove the key in Settings. That withdraws your agreement and stops every send. What a provider keeps of earlier sends, and for how long, is set by that provider; its privacy policy above describes it.
Your API key is stored on your device only, whichever provider it belongs to. It is deliberately excluded from every backup and export the app produces, so it cannot travel in a file you share.
If you never add a key, Conatus makes no network requests at all. Asking ChatGPT or Claude from the Mirror without a key opens your share sheet: you pick the app and send the text yourself, and Conatus sends nothing.
Your data, your control
- Export: Settings → Export produces a single JSON file containing your record. It is yours; put it wherever you like.
- Import: the same file restores your record on any device running Conatus.
- Automatic copy (iPhone): the app also keeps a copy of your record, as a JSON file, in Files → On My iPhone → Conatus. It stays on the device.
- Deletion: deleting the app deletes its storage, that copy included. The developer holds no copy to request the deletion of. What an AI provider received is deleted through that provider (see above).
Children
Conatus is not directed at children and collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. The current version is the one linked from the app's store page, and Settings in the latest version of the app shows the same text.
